DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. Many regular classroom teachers feel overwhelmed by their currrent duties. It is reasonable to expect them to provide for the needs of a child with disabilities in their classroom?

2. Should accountability extend to special education? Should we include children with disabilities in standardized testing?

3. If you could change the way we provide services to children with disabilities, what would you recommend?

Students are required to respond to each at least one (1) time during the term with a response of 250 words minimum. Click here for message board.

CLASSROOM OBSERVATIONS

Observations in educational settings. It is a requirement of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing that students have the opportunity to observe children with disabilities. Two observations are required and the period of observation should be at least two hours (2) in length and can be completed in more than one session. Observations in your own classroom are disallowed. Observations are required in the following two settings:

1. Resource Specialist Program (RSP) (pull-out/separate room) that serves children diagnosed as Learning Handicapped (LH).

2. Special Day Class (SDC), separate class or school that serves children diagnosed as Severely Handicapped (SH).
