The National American Indian, Alaskan, and Hawaiian Educational Development Center is a long-term collaboration of individuals and organizations throughout the United States to support improved education for American Indians, Alaskan Natives, and Native Hawaiians and other indigenous peoples throughout America.

The Foundation for Comprehensive Early Literacy Learning is a major collaborator with the Center and provides long-term and intensive development for teachers focusing on the school change process. With an emphasis on good first teaching, the CELL Foundation supports teachers improve instruction in literacy learning, content area study,assessment, and classroom organization and management. The development of this center is a direct outgrowth of work initiated by the Foundation
with Native American and Hawaiian Schools more than ten years ago.

Use teaching methods supported by scientific research
Focus on the professional development of teachers
Support school reform and school restructuring
Support continued literacy learning in the content areas
Increase the emphasis on reading and writing in the curriculum
Align teaching methods within and across grade levels
Support English language learners
Facilitate inclusion of special needs students
Use a capacity-building model
